The International Champions Cup (ICC), a friendly football (soccer) competition held in the USA for the last few years will be broadcast in full VR in the future. NextVR have signed a deal to live broadcast the entire event in VR and we expect that they will make this available to the Samsung Gear VR headset and possibly many more by the time the competition starts.
This will be a big boost for live VR content and follows on the heels of the NBA broadcasting in October for the Warriors vs Pelicans match. As broadcasting of VR grows, so will the quantity and quality of headsets on the market as well as camera equipment for users to generate their own content.
NextVR’s Brad Allen noted:
“Virtual reality is redefining what the best seat is, as we will provide access to places fans could never experience.”
I can’t wait for the ICC in 2016 on hearing this news!
